| | | The Gigabit 8-Port Workgroup Switch provides non-blocking, wire speed switching for your 10, 100, and 1000 megabit network clients. Drop this switch in place of your current workgroup hub or switch, and you can upgrade your high-requirement workstations to full Gigabit speeds as necessary, while continuing to service other clients at their current speeds. Or build your network from the ground up, with appropriate link speeds for each user's requirements.
Apply this switching power to your current hub-based Ethernet network, and your data traffic efficiency will improve several times over. Connect your Gigabit-equipped workstations to the Switch's 10/100/1000 ports for full-duplex, dedicated bandwidth. It's perfect for graphics, multimedia, and other applications that have to move large files across the network quickly.
With the Gigabit 8-Port Workgroup Switch, you can connect your existing 10/100 Ethernet network to your Gigabit server backbone without any additional equipment. All ports are auto-negotiating, and have automatic MDI/MDI-X crossover detection, so you don't have to worry about the cable type. Address learning and aging is supported, as well as 802.3x flow control with head-of-line blocking prevention to keep your high-speed clients from bogging down in lower-speed traffic.
The Gigabit 8-Port Workgroup Switch from Linksys is the perfect solution for your desktop Gigabit and 10/100 networking needs.

5 of 5 Fast, quiet, plug it in and it works. Monday, November 03, 2008 Todd C. from Holland, Michigan
Not sure if others are talking about older versions, but this model is quiet as a mouse. Obviously, no configuration is required, as it's not a router. I've got 6 ports already in use with no issues. The switch just sits on the floor and works. For the same money as the 100Mb switches, why not go with the gigabit switch?
That's my two cents. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Pluged in, works great Monday, November 03, 2008 Harold W. Dana from Bellevue, WA
It actually does what it is supposed to. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works great Sunday, July 06, 2008 Bob from Mattoon
Unpluged old switch, pluged in new switch. Took 3-minutes and was up and running again. Super easy. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 It Just Works Sunday, July 06, 2008 bdoserr from Weems, VA
Not much to say; it just works. I have no idea where the "fan noise" comment came from. I haven't cracked it open, but if it has a fan at all I would be very surprised.
It's particularly good for home/small office use, because it takes up little space and has the connectors in the back while the LEDs are in front. So no obvious cable mess if you choose to leave it out in the open. Or if you don't think that flashing lights are kewl, put it behind the furniture. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Great switch! Saturday, July 05, 2008 A Customer from seattle
This switch is a workhorse. Got this for gigabit use and haven't looked back. Very, very satisfied. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works Perfectly Saturday, July 05, 2008 A Customer from Western New York
Unplugged the old ethernet switch and plugged this one in its place. Rebooted everything, and it worked beautifully. This new 8 port gigabit switch is not much bigger than my old 5 port ethernet switch. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Works as expected Saturday, July 05, 2008 marian from Cape Canaveral, Florida
It's a nice piece of modern network equipment.
Worked out of the box. Just plugged it in and voila! you've got yourself a network.
I have on my network a dhcp server and several machines on different speeds. They all communicate excellent at their maximum hardware speed.
Very pleased with it's performance. Was this review helpful?
